In Great Britain it is the responsibility of each airport to provide a rescue and firefighting service to safeguard lives and render assistance on humanitarian grounds to passengers and all airport users.

Glasgow Airport is situated on  the West Coast of Scotland and is the North's main International Airport.

Each airport is categorised by the largest type of aircraft (length and width) expected. Glasgow regularly accepts Boeing 767 aircraft and therefore is classed as a Cat.8 airfield. This means that the Airport Fire Service has to be sufficiently equipped and manned to deal with incidents involving aircraft of that size.

Glasgow is manned 24 /7, 365 days per year, by four watches of 17 personnel including two supervisory officers. Front line appliances include a Gloster Saro Meteor Light Foam Crash Tender (Fire1), 1 Volvo FL Domestic Tender , and 4 Carmichael Cobra Major Foam Crash Tenders.
