RANGER
811H
The RANGER 811H is Linear Amp UK’s newest addition to
their range.
Budget price but not
budget quality.....
Svetlana
Power
The Ranger uses four
vertically mounted Svetlana 811A high-mu power
triodes.
The Svetlana 811A has been
developed as a high power RF transmitting valve
featuring a low loss ceramic
base and a bonded ceramic plate cap insulator.
Two specially designed
getters are mounted on the plate for superior gas
absorption.
These are far more effective
than the flash getters silvered on the inside of
the glass, as used on
receiving tubes.
Toroidal
transformer
As with all our models, the
Ranger 811H has a toroidal transformer providing the
power into our standard
voltage doubler board. Toroidal transformers have such
a
good power to weight
ratio. This particular one also provides the heater supply
to
the valves and the 12V
control for the relays etc.
The voltage doubler board is
used in preference to a bridge rectifier as it
keeps the AC volts down. The
board has eight 220uF, 400V capacitors to give
more than adequate smoothing
to the 1700V DC.
800 Watts O/P CW or SSB
With the four 811A valves in
parallel the Ranger produces an easy 800W on CW or
SSB.
It can even be used at up to
400 W on RTTY and other data modes. The power
increase
from a 100W transceiver
running barefoot to a modest amplifier makes all the
difference.
You, too, can get those
elusive DX stations !!
Input Tuned
Circuit
Each band has its own tuned
I/P so your radio sees a 50ohm load to get maximum
drive.
Output
Pi-network
Optimum Q is achieved on
each band with separate band switch positions on
10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, 40,
80 and 160 metres.
With each band having its
own position on the band change switch and individual
tap on the coil, this makes
‘twitchy’ tuning a thing of the past.
6:1 reduction drives
for Tune and Load
Tuning is also enhanced by
the use of Jackson 6:1 ball drives on both the
Tune and Load capacitors.
These enable you to really fine-tune so easily,
even if you’re not used to
doing it.
Wide-spaced Tune and
Load capacitors
The Ranger, like all our HF
amplifiers, uses an exclusive modular capacitor
combining both tune and load
in one unit. No other amplifier has such a
heavy-duty air spaced
capacitor which cannot flash over.
Quiet
cooling
The Ranger 811H is cooled
with a 120mm, low noise, Papst fan, which gives
excellent cooling but is so
quiet you will hardly know that it is running.
Front panel features include
two backlit, flush-mounted meters, which show plate
current and grid
current. The grid meter also doubles as a relative RF power
O/P
meter, selectable on the
front panel. Fully adjustable ALC is controlled from the
front
panel so you need not worry
about exceeding a preset level of O/P power.
TX/Standby switch means you
can run on transceiver power only, but with the
amplifier ready to leap into
action instantly.
